Mine generally go into a divided 5 Gallon, so they have about 2.5 Gal to themselves. So, first I float them in the water (still in the bags) to warm up since they are almost always cold when they arrive. Then I empty the bag's contents into a plastic jar and add about the same amount of water as they were in to the jar (double the volume of water). After 5 or 10 minutes I double the volume of water in the jar again. Then after another 5 or 10 minutes I free them into their new "forever" home.
Once they're in their new homes, I will move them from one tank to another without acclimatizing them... I figure that the water parameters should be about the same in each tank since I use the same water and same change schedule on them all.
