Have some nice looking guys there.
What are you going to do with the ones you don't keep?

Hello Catherine,

I usually trim them down giving there faith to my associate Cheeto( the Oscar fish) starting 9wks-2.5 months those fish that are looking weak and small,I also start jarring some of them at this time to avoid collateral damage on there fins  . On this video actually its been cut in half already there is still lots of them. I jarred those big one's, once jarred they will go to a photographic session which I call the grid test (I have a back ground of cardboard with lines this help me to see if they have little bump on there toplines) if they have deformities again there faith will be hand on to Cheeto, then start all over gain on that process until I just get 3 male, 5 female progeny to continue the line.

Cheers,
Francis

Very nice Francis.  I love that HM#1.  He's got great form!

I'm curious, when you get your still shots of them in full flare, are you taking those with a camera or do you take a slide out of the video?

Hi Heather,

I take pictures of them with just my ordinary camera the usual way of taking pictures, they kinda pose at me when I'm taking pictures. This two guys really love to pose at me on my camera which make it easy for me to take there pictures that's why I like them, there behavior is kinda showy compare to there other sibs which is pretty much look like them but not as good as this two guys who pose when I'm taking picture.

The trick is good lighting I guess, even though I got a crappy camera I still get good pictures. Notice the HM#1 has more Irid compare to HM#2 but the anal length of HM#2 is much longer compare to HM#1, Form wise I like HM#1 but color wise HM#2. Anyways thank you for the comment.

Best Regards,
Francis

I read once somewhere to always look at your fish first for form and then for color.  It's easier to improve color apparently than it is to improve form.  So now, the first thing I always look for is form, then for mask (which I aim for), then color, then pattern.  Of course, even before form I look for the disqualifying features - fused finnage, missing/deformed ventrals, poor scale alignment etc.

Hello,

I guess that is a misconception that color is easy to tinker than form,Me I do it at the same time as color is as difficult as form specially with reds which most of the time carry those annoying irids which is pretty much too dominant ,for blues is those ventral and anal redwash, also those white tips on there ventrals which apply  to red and blue. I guess If I will keep up drafting progeny with balance color and form it will be more easy to manage than over powered with good form. But anyways that depends on the priority of the breeder.
