Okay i have a question that i am dying to ask. I know allot of you keep your betta's in seperate containers or beenie boxes ect. So with us Bein in Canada and having very Cold Temps in the fall, winter, and spring how do you keep your fish warm?
I am looking to buy a decent amount of betta's here in the next month to two, as soon as i sell off most of my African Cichlids, and also two fish tanks. My idea is to buy a area heater from say Canadian Tire or Home Depot ect. Now the problem i am having is i will have my Computer desk in there and also having to share the room with my wifes scrap booking stuff. So how warm will i have to keep the room in order to keep the fish warm or alive? I am worried that i will have to keep the room to hot for anyone to stand to be in so i am looking for idea's?
I did buy a nice copper HM Plakat from Vancouver who did great for about 3 weeks or so, but i think he died from the cold he got really inactive and litterly was laying on the bottom he did perk up when dinner time came, but overall im sad to say i killed him. I do have a blue marble crown tail and a Red/Blue Crowntail female that seem to be doing okay but i think they are a little cold as well. I do not want this to happen again and lose $200 worth of fish soooo.. Im interested to hear what everyone els does.
Thanks in advance Steve.

Well, I keep everyone in true fish tanks - 5 Gallon for the males and sororities for the females. I have a heater in each tank... Gets a little expensive this time of year, but since I keep my house at 60*F overnight and when I'm at work, it would get way too cold for them.
For the fry, I use my largest tanks (30 Gallon and 20 gallon), fill them with enough water to cover a submersible heater suctioned onto the floor of the tank, then stack my jarred fry in the tank. I cover it all with saran wrap to keep the heat and moisture in. I use plastic craft canvas between the layers of jars in the taller tanks. It's not pretty, and it's a real pain to feed them since I have to remove all the top jars to reach the ones below, but it keeps them warm enough and seems to work.
--------------------
Males: Sparky and Marble-Valentino(VT); Blue Tide, Smoochie, Marble Boy (SD), Dimer, Eragon, Tiger Tail, Watermelon, Freedom, Sirius, Draco, Magicarp, Black Dragon(HM); Kitkat (PK) Females: Copper, Bully, Parvati, Blondie, Bella (HM). Current fry: Copper/Orange HM, Full mask blue HM, Blue dragon x gold dragon HM

It's actually inspired me. I have this crazy idea in my head but I'm not sure if it'll work well or not untill I actually give it a try. I have a spare little pump lying around (from a disassembled ornamental fountain) and some tubing (not sure what the diameter is but I bought it at home hardware). If I buy a plastic box from the dollar store I can drill two holes on either end, pour in some water, add a heater, and form a kind of loop/circuit of warm water around all the bettas in the area. Kind of like a cooling system in a desktop computer.

So i will be keeping mine in seperate containers if possible any idea what temp i would have to keep my room at in order for them not to freeze?
I was thinking of partitioning a 50 gallon tank, but it would be super hard to clean with algea growth and if one fish gets sick everyone in that tank is going to get it so im deciding containers are better to go, but i am super scared of them getting cold..

Zena how do you stand the 78F heat? I would never be able to sleep at night. I like the temp at night to be like 16C for myself. lol

If you want separate containers and you can do it, go for a betta barracks. That way you can more effectively distribute the heat as well as hold many more bettas!
