I have my green/black dragon pair in the spawning tank at the moment and they don't seem to be doing much.  She has been barred since I put her in her vase, and he has been super interested in her, but not that keen on building a nest. I let her out with him yesterday and he chased her around alot, but didn't build much nest. So I put her back in her vase last night (too scared to leave them together since one of the red/green dragon females nearly killed the male yesterday in a matter of a couple of hours when I wasn't watching them).  This morning he had a nice little bubblenest started under his leaf, so I let her out again.

I come in to check on them and he is wandering around the tank and she is lying flat out on top of the leaf!  I pulled open the top and reached in; she rolled over and slid back down into the tank, but within a few minutes, she's back up there!  She has spent most of the day "sleeping" on top of the leaf - mostly in water, but there have been times I've checked in on them and she's mostly out of water - including her gills!  She's not stressed in the slightest up there - just hanging out.  Each time I open the top she rouses herself and slides into the water with a kind of "Oh, I suppose I will" attitude.  But then she's right back up there again.

When she's in the tank, she's nicely barred, but hiding from the male in the corners and under the heater.  When she's hanging out on the leaf she's not barred, but not stressed either.  He's started to figure it out sometimes - if he sees her he'll cruise in and slide up onto the leaf a little to chase her back down into the tank.  But sometimes that just serves to push her higher on the leaf!

About 10 minutes ago, the leaf finally sank so I replaced it with a styrofoam cup which she can't jump on top of.... we'll see what happens now  http://209.85.62.26/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='rolleyes.gif' />

Heh - I pulled them.  I went downstairs and she was lying on top of the styrofoam!  Figured it was better to stop the spawn and pull them than have her dry out trying to spawn them  http://209.85.62.26/html/emoticons/huh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='huh.gif' />

Those fish really have a mind of their own. We think the couple looks perfect for each other but they just won't have it.

Silly girl.  I guess she figured she could rest up there in between spawning mode.  http://209.85.62.26/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

I had a girl who did that too. She really loved the top of the leaf.
One of my guys did it to but he sunk the leaf with his bubble nest under it.

Good - I'm glad to know mine aren't the only ones  http://209.85.62.26/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' />   I've never had them do this before.  I've had the male snooze on top of his leaf before, but never a female.

Reconditioning time I guess.  Maybe another try in a couple of weeks  http://209.85.62.26/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />
