As some of you might recall, I bought a bunch of C.pygmaeus a while ago to test as cleanup crew.

Twice in a row now, my newly turned free swimming fry would disappear day after day. In 3 days there's nothing left. The culprit is 3 pygmy corys in the tank which I put in as cleanup, since numerous internet sources say they are safe in fry tanks. I'm doing this as an experimental alternative to apple snails, because I think the snails poop too much.

But conclusion is that these corys are no good afterall. Perhaps they're good in tanks which the fry is older, say ~4 weeks onward, but definitely not with newborns!

I now have all those corys I bought in my growout, which they seem fine. These guys love BBS and they form a friendly competition with the fry, to make sure they need to eat as soon/much as they can. But comes down to being "cleanup" they aren't exactly necessary in that tank to begin with, so I guess this is a lost investment.
